Singing to the skies
People enjoy music by the Jolly Ringwalds, a 1980s cover band, along the tiers of Willowhaven Park's amphitheater Tuesday night during the Bourbonnais Township Park District's Summer Concert Series. The music series alternates between Willowhaven and Perry Farm location. The series' final show will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Perry Farm. The show features an acoustic set by local musician Matt Yeager. MORE PHOTOS.

Father Charles Chiniquy in about 1841, when he was gaining fame in French Canada for his work as an anti-alcohol crusader. His Society of Temperance pamphlet was widely printed, and went through three editions in a period of less than 10 years. READ MORE.

Church collapse
Part of the roof and a wall of the former Temple B’nai Israel Kankakee, now True Vine Life-Changing Ministries, collapsed Saturday at the South Harrison Avenue and River Street intersection. No one was injured, Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche said. READ MORE.Â

Tigers
A mural near the Bourbonnais Elementary District 53 administration building shows the Tigers mascot, which is now the mascot for all five schools after LeVasseur, Shepard and Shabbona schools asked for their mascots to be changed from the Explorers, Rockets and Bears, respectively. READ MORE.

Principal of buses
Herscher High School principal Brad Elliot drives a school bus around campus last week, something he did frequently last school year to help cover bus routes as driver shortages hit the district. Elliot said the possibility of seeing a nationally-ranked track athlete, 2021 grad Drew Rogers, unable to attend competitions is what ultimately drove him to find a solution. Elliot would drive over 100 routes last school year. READ MORE.Â

Herscher High School principal Brad Elliot shows the checklist he had to learn last school year to help cover bus routes as driver shortages hit the district. Elliot, along with some fellow Herscher staff members, obtained their CDL licenses to keep kids in attendance and involved in their extracurriculars. Elliot said the possibility of seeing a nationally-ranked track athlete, 2021 grad Drew Rogers, unable to attend competitions is what drove him to find a solution.
