IHSA State Finals

Seven local individuals and a pair of relay teams competed at the final day of competition at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

In Class 1A, the Sangamon Valley Conference made a major statement, as Watseka and Central each had two individuals and a relay in action, and St. Anne also joined the fray.

The Warriors Rusty Kuhlmann and Jameson Cluver tied for the best area finishes, as they each took fifth place in their respective events. Kuhlmann took his fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 56-feet-2.5, and Cluver earned his by running the 400-meter dash in 50.48 seconds.

Cluver also anchored the Warriors 4-by-400-meter relay team finished sixth with a time of 3:27.36. Central’s 4-by-800-meter relay team finished 12th with a time of 8:31.14.

The Comets’ Jefferson Caspary finished seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.32 seconds, and Isaiah Ditta finished 19th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:20.34.

St. Anne’s Omavi Epps finished ran the 100-meter dash in 11.05 seconds to finish sixth, and Bishop McNamara freshman Chase Provost finished 11th in the 3200 run with a time of 9:57.23.

In Class 2A, a pair of local runners competed in the 3200. Herscher freshman Drew Rogers ran the race in 10:01.34 to finish 14th, and Peotone senior Joey Uthe finished 22nd with a time of 11:40.42.

Joliet Catholic 12, Manteno 4

The Panthers fell in an early 7-0 hole after three innings and saw their season end at the hands of the Hilltoppers.

Darien Bechard had a double and two RBIs. Dan Barrios and Ryan Crockett had a pair of hits apiece, and Crockett added an RBI.
