Local Life

The Beecher Women’s Club has published a one-of-a-kind cookbook for the club’s 100th Anniversary. Members of all ages have compiled their tastiest tried-and-true recipes into a single book that will be treasured by generations to come.

There are a number of local events taking place to celebrate Halloween. The following five events will take place between tomorrow and Oct. 23.

November is National Novel Writing Month, and kids in grades 3rd through 6th are invited to work on their own book at Bourbonnais Public Library writing camp.

From 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, Aroma Park American Legion Post 1019 — located at 739 Sandbar Rd., Kankakee — will host a Fish Fry Dinner. Dinner includes fried tilapia, french fries, coleslaw and dinner roll.

Dr. Jim Simone of Kankakee is an ultra-marathoner who runs, bikes, walks and paddles in some of the world’s most unusual events, all to raise money for local charity.
