Restoring a prairie, one plant at a time

Matthew Taber, a volunteer with The Wetlands Initiative, of Bourbonnais, prepares a native plant species for planting at a restoration site at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie in Wilmington. Roughly 25 volunteers work for hours every Thursday to restore 1,800 acres across Midewin’s west side as part of the Prairie Glacial Plains project, a 7-year accelerated restoration.
