Walter Pieszka, 96, of Bonfield, passed away Tuesday (June 25, 2019) at Butterfield Court Assisted Living in Kankakee.

He was born May 23, 1923, in Ilownica, Poland, the son of Frank and Zofia Pieszka. Walter married Mary Abbeduto on May 31, 1958, in Chicago.

Walter enjoyed gardening, woodworking and was active at Sacred Heart Church in Goodrich. He worked for over 30 years at the William Wrigley Jr. Company in Chicago.

He was part of the Free Polish Forces under Allied Command during World War II.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Walter G. (Lauren) Pieszka, of Monee; two grandchildren, Debra (Peter) Vinci and Daniel “Danny” Pieszka; and one great-grandchild, Valerie Vinci.

Preceding him in death were his wife; infant daughter, Kathleen; and three brothers, Emil, Frank and Andrew.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Schreffler Funeral Homes, Kankakee Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Sacred Heart Church in Goodrich. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Goodrich.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
