Johnny Mathis Holbrook, 44, of Kankakee, also known as Buddy Row or Junior, departed this life unexpectedly on April 1, 2019, at Amita Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, until the noon funeral service at Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee. Pastor Andy Hansen will officiate. Interment will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory, Kankakee.

Johnny was born Oct. 21, 1974, to the union of John and Cressie Smith Holbrook, in Flint, Mich.

He had worked as a general laborer.

Johnny enjoyed fishing, basketball, football and music.

Surviving are his wife, the former Zharmell Brewster, whom he married Oct. 21, 2006, of Kankakee; his mother, Cressie Holbrook, of Kankakee; his father, John Holbrook, of Flint, Mich.; sons, Johnnie M. Holbrook and Jamar M. Holbrook, of Champaign; daughters, Precious J. Holbrook and Cressie A. Holbrook, of Kankakee; sisters, Rhonda K Holbrook, Pamela D. Holbrook, Katesha (Kesha) Holbrook-Starks and VaShonna R. Holbrook, all of Kankakee; brother, William E. (L’Tanya) Crumble, of Clinton, Ky.; grandmother, Minnie Williams, of Kankakee; six grandchildren; stepchildren, Kadijah Bailey, Markell Sanders, of Champaign, Kevon Holbrook, Kenya Caffey, of Kankakee; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Jesse and Lizzie Holbrook; and maternal grandfather, Eugene Hansbrew.
