John W. Wilson, 73, of Anna, and formerly of Bourbonnais, passed away Sunday (May 5, 2019) at the Marion V. A. Hospital.

He was born Dec. 1, 1945, in Gadsden, Ala., the son of John Tyler and Tressie (Hamilton) Wilson. John married Mary Louise Hawkins on Sept. 26, 1986. She preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2013.

John was a former insurance agent for John Hancock Insurance. He was a fan of Elvis Presley and collected comics and family photos.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church.

Surviving are his son, Jonathan Wilson, of Bourbonnais, and a daughter, Paula Murphy, of Benton; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Thomas Wilson, of Countryside.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, until the 7 p.m. funeral service at Schreffler Funeral Homes, Bourbonnais Chapel. The Rev. Vern Jackman will officiate.

Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
