President Biden speaks at Kankakee farm

President Joe Biden talks about U.S. agricultural production at a press conference held at a farm in Kankakee Wednesday afternoon.

President Joe Biden addressed challenges U.S. farmers and consumers are facing, pending legislation, supply chains, gas prices and more at a farm in Kankakee Wednesday afternoon

The press conference started around 1:15 p.m. and also featured remarks from U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and local farmer Jeff O'Connor.

“I stand here today to thank American farmers, who are the breadbasket of democracy,” Biden said.

O'Connor said he and his wife, Gina, showed the president around their farm in Kankakee before the press conference.

"I applaud President Biden’s efforts to place a spotlight on the global food challenges created by the Ukraine conflict right now," O'Connor said in his introduction. "I also applaud his eagerness to work hand-in-hand with farmers to make healthy, high quality food affordable and accessible for people everywhere."
