You've heard of buddy cop comedies, but have you ever heard of a buddy military comedy? Evanston, Ill., native Bill Murray stars as John Winger in "Stripes," who loses his job, apartment, car and girlfriend; and decides to join the Army with his best friend Russel, portrayed by Harold Ramis.

This 1981 comedy shows the irreverent Winger causing hi-jinks through basic training and his time in the Army that threatens to cause an international scandal. This movie features John Candy and early career roles from Judge Reinhold and Bill Paxton.

"Stripes" will be shown as part of the Daily Journal's Holiday Film Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Classic Cinemas Paramount Theatre in Kankakee.

Free movie passes are available to subscribers of the Daily Journal and can be picked up at our Northfield Square mall and Kankakee locations. Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit four passes per subscribing household.
