Salute to Watseka veteran

Manteno resident Sue Shipp holds an American flag as a long caravan — including the hearse carrying Army Sgt. Jeremy C. Sherman, 23, from Watseka — passed by Manteno’s Steam Hollow Brewing on Interstate 57. Sherman was one of five American soldiers killed in a helicopter crash while on a peacekeeping mission in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula earlier this month. “He went for me, so I’m here for him,” Shipp, who has no immediate family military connection, said of her attendance. About 20 people, civilian and veteran, gathered at the veteran-owned brewery to pay their respects and express their gratitude.
