Rowing the fields

Bonfield farmer Jared Sikes, right, Limestone farmer Chris Ohrt prepare boats to paddle on one of Ohrt’s fields after storms caused flooding throughout Kankakee County. “We joked about doing it last year,” said Sikes, whose family farm also has significant flooding again. “I told him we’re doing it. We could use a little stress relief.” The duo were later joined by other area farmers and floated the rows until dark. Widespread flash flooding hit the area overnight into Thursday and a National Weather Service flood warning remains in effect until 7:30 a.m. May 24.
