MANTENO — Alexander M. Thompson, of rural Bonfield, died because of injuries he sustained when the motorcycle he was operating crashed Saturday.

Thompson, 29, and a female passenger were westbound on 9000N Road just west of U.S. Route 45/52 when Thompson lost control and went down, according to Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner.

Speed appears to have been a factor, according to Manteno police.

Thompson was pronounced dead at Riverside Medical Center emergency room at 8:56 p.m. An autopsy was performed today.

The passenger was taken to Riverside with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Neither Thompson or his passenger were wearing helmets, according to Manteno police.

The accident occurred at 7:21 p.m.

According to Illinois Department of transportation statistics, six people have died as a result of vehicle crashes in Kankakee County this year.
