Herscher Community Unit School District 2 bus driver Shane Finley prepares for his morning route Friday. Herscher, along with Pembroke Community Consolidated School District 259, are receiving grants from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program to replace some of their used diesel school buses with brand new, fully electric school buses. Herscher CUSD 2 is one of two districts in the state receiving the highest amount of $9,875,000 for the purchase of 25 electric buses and related charging infrastructure, while Pembroke will receive $700,000 for two buses and charging infrastructure.
