Comedic actor Dan Aykroyd turns 67 today. Daniel Edward Aykroyd was born July 1, 1952, in Ontario, Canada.
Before comedy, clergy considered
Aykroyd grew up in a Catholic Church. He was determined to be a priest until the age of 17.
After settling on a career path, Aykroyd joined the Second City improvisational troupe in 1973. He first worked for Second City in Toronto, and then moved on to Second City in Chicago.
A ‘Saturday Night Live’ original
The long-running, late night comedy show made its debut in 1975 and included Aykroyd as one of its first cast members.
‘Blues Brothers’ bond made
John Belushi was also an original SNL cast member, and he and Aykroyd joined forces to first perform the “Blues Brothers’’ skit on the show. Ir proved so popular a “Blues Brothers” movie was filmed in 1980. It has become a cult classic.
