CRESCENT CITY — John Weber, of rural Watseka, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 1, about five miles north of Crescent City, on Monday.

Weber, 78, was pronounced dead at the scene by Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum. An autopsy was performed today.

According to Illinois State Police District 21, Weber was not wearing a seat belt. The air bags did deploy.

According to a preliminary investigation, Weber was southbound on Illinois Route 49 when he attempted to turn east onto 2300N Road. His Toyota Prius collided with an Acura MDX traveling northbound at 4:37 p.m.

A mother and father and their three children in the Acura were taken to Riverside Medical Center for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries, state police said.

The family was returning to Chicago along with relatives in two other vehicles traveling with them, Cheatum said.

According to Illinois Department of Transportation statistics, there have been 350 fatal crashes resulting in 382 fatalities this year; that is 17 less than a year ago at this time.
