KANKAKEE — One of the two flags taken off the flagpole at the Kankakee County Courthouse has been recovered.
A woman handed over the American flag to Kankakee police at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
According to a report, the woman said she was contacted by an anonymous female who told her she had found the flag and knew it to be stolen.
The state of Illinois flag has yet to be recovered as of Wednesday afternoon.
The flags were swiped by a man at 11:30 p.m. May 29. Surveillance cameras around the courthouse caught him in action.
The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department posted the video to Facebook. Chief Deputy Ken McCabe said tips started coming in shortly thereafter.
