BOURBONNAIS — Elijah D. Gebre, of Morton Grove, was arrested by Bourbonnais police on Dec. 10 on felony sexual assault charges involving a male juvenile younger than the age of 13 that allegedly occurred starting in November 2017.
Bond was set at $150,000 for the 24-year-old Gebre. His next court date is Jan. 10.
According to an information sheet filed by the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s office on Dec. 11, the 24-year-old Gebre is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Gebre is accused of inappropriately touching the 9-year-old boy.
The victim’s parents are clergy members.
According to a police report, the victim’s parents have known Gebre for several years, as he was a church volunteer. They said Gebre passed a background check.
They contacted investigators last month after their son told them he felt uncomfortable around Gebre.
The alleged incidents occurred when Gebre stayed over at the family’s house in Bourbonnais.
According to the police report, Gebre told investigators he inappropriately touched four other boys. Investigators have contacted the parents of those boys.
Gebre attended Olivet Nazarene University. According to his Facebook profile, Gebre is a behavioral therapist at Autism Home Support Services in Chicago.
