KANKAKEE — Kankakee County Sheriff’s police are asking for help in finding a person who was caught on surveillance cameras taking the American and Illinois state flags from the flag pole on the Kankakee County Courthouse lawn last week.

The department posted to Facebook Tuesday afternoon that at 11:30 p.m. May 29, the person approached the flag pole and removed the two flags. The person hoisted the Kankakee County flag back up.

Chief Deputy Ken McCabe said investigators are making progress.

During the 2 minute 35 seconds video, the suspect walks south across East Court Street, takes down the two flags and then walks south toward East Merchant Street.

After taking the flags, the suspect walks 20 feet, then turns around and takes a few seconds to look up at the pole before continuing on his way.
