KANKAKEE — An employee closing up for the night fired a shotgun after a male subject continued banging on a back door of the business in the 700 block of North Fifth Avenue on Dec. 30.

According to a report, an officer dispatched to the location at 2:09 a.m. received a report of a shot fired while en route.

The woman told the officer she was closing and heard a loud vehicle in the back parking lot.

She said she saw a van parked in the lot that then backed up to the rear of the building.

She said she was afraid and locked herself in the office. The banging got louder, and she grabbed the shotgun located in the office and fired one shot.

The officer observed two damaged doors from the shot.

Neither the van nor the suspect were located.
