DJ FILE - Courts

URBANA — The owners of Plaza Liquors in Kankakee, Raymond and Angie Adamee, of Bourbonnais, were indicted by a federal grand jury on tax charges May 7.

According to the U.S. District Attorney for the Central District of Illinois John C. Milhiser, both Raymond and Angie Adamee are charged with five counts of filing false individual income tax returns.

In addition, the indictment charges Angie Adamee with four counts of filing — and one count of aiding and assisting in filing — false corporate tax returns.

The indictment alleges that for tax years 2012 through 2016, the Adamees falsely reported on their individual tax returns the income they earned from the business they own, Kankakee Plaza Liquors, 1623 E. Court St., Kankakee, knowing that their income substantially exceeded the amounts stated in the returns.

The indictment also alleges that Angie Adamee falsely reported and for 2012, that she aided and assisted in falsely reporting-gross receipts or sales earned by Kankakee Plaza Liquors on the corporation’s income tax returns, knowing that its income substantially exceeded the amounts stated in the returns.

According to Illinois Secretary of State online records, Angie Adamee is listed as the president of Kankakee Plaza Liquors Inc.

The couple is scheduled to make their initial appearance in federal court in Urbana on June 3.

If convicted, each count charged carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000 plus the costs of prosecution, and full restitution.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith Reiter.
