Shots fired

According to a Kankakee police report, at 2:03 a.m. an officer on patrol in the 400 block of South Osborn Avenue heard several shots. The officer stopped a man he saw cutting between houses in the 300 block of South Osborn. The man told the officer he was walking to his aunt’s house when he heard shots and thought he was the target. The officer found eight shell casings in the east alley of the 400 block of South Lincoln Avenue.Kankakee police investigated a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of South Washington Avenue at 3:28 a.m. on June 9. According to a report, an officer found two spent shell casings and two spent bullets.


Kankakee police arrested for James R. Stewart, 18, of Kankakee, for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on June 11. According to a report, police were called to the area of Washington Park about a subject with a gun. When officers arrived, two male subjects fled on foot but were apprehended a short time later. A loaded pistol was found in bushes near where Stewart and a male juvenile went past as they fled. The juvenile was turned over the juvenile probation. A judge set Stewart’s bond at $25,000.
