Clove Alliance's Third Annual Art Show at Kankakee County Museum wraps up the week of May 1. Though 10 adult entries were received, it's the 72 student entries that demanded the most attention. With hopeful and haunting themes, these students submitted sketches, paintings and word art-themed pieces that convey Clove Alliance's theme for this art show, "Brave, Bold, & Believed." CA's mission is to someday eliminate sexual violence; until that time, their work promotes hope for survivors. MORE LOCAL PHOTOS.

Pops of purple cover the East Court Street-facing lawn of the Kankakee County Courthouse for National Crime Victims' Rights Week, which runs through April 29. Coordinated by the office of Kankakee County State's Attorney Jim Rowe, each purple flag represents a domestic violence survivor who was strangled and filed a police report in Kankakee County in the past three years, according to explanatory signs around the display. "Manual strangulation is a silent killer that will not leave a mark," reads the sign. "Most survivors stated, 'I thought I was going to die.'" A total of 156 purple flags sit on the lawn.
