Peggy Mayer, of Kankakee, was named St. Patrick's Parish CCW 2019 Woman of the Year. She was selected because of her extraordinary service to the parish, Bishop McNamara Catholic School and the community. Peggy is pictured here with Fr. John Peeters, pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

St. Patrick's Parish recently announced Peggy Mayer as the Council of Catholic Women's 2019 Woman of the Year.

Mayer, a lifelong parishoner, was educated at St. Patrick's Grade School and Bishop McNamara Catholic High School. She had guidance from her parents, Jack and Shirley Purcell, and her nine siblings.

Mayer, along with her husband, Scott, are involved with her own three children and their school activities at Bishop McNamara Catholic School, where she has been a room mother and chaired the cookie walk.

She is a member of the Kankakee Chamber of Commerce, was instrumental in the early plans of the Merchant Street MusicFest, and continues to help plan that event, as well as Wednesday's Wheels and Sandwich with a Side of a Jam. Mayer is also involved with events for the Kankakee Public Library, Kankakee Community College and Riverside Medical Center.

She is also very involved in the parish, serving as a catechist for Little Peoples Church, and is involved in the Half Paddy Festival every year. For the St. Patrick CCW, Mayer has coordinated the Christmas evergreen wreath sale, the fall mum sale and chaired the Spring Banquet.
