St. John United Church of Christ holding 150th Anniversary Gala

St. John United Church of Christ at 1045 W. River St. in Kankakee will be holding a 150th Anniversary Gala on Sunday.

The anniversary begins with a 10:30 a.m. worship with Barbara Lohrbach, pastor, and Ken Medema, musical composer from California. There will be coffee time at 11:30 a.m.

There will be a social hour from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Quality Inn & Suites in Bradley, followed by a dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. Dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-11. Dinner menu is roast beef and breast of chicken plated dinner, cream of chicken soup, tossed salad with balsamic vinaigrette, butter whipped potatoes, Malibu blend vegetables and cake and ice cream.

Sacred Heart to bless the animals

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Goodrich is holding a blessing of animals of any kind at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the church parking lot. The church is at 588 S. 10000W Road in Bonfield.

The Rev. Ron Neitzke invites all to bring their animals for the blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.

Mt. Calvary M.B. Church honoring pastor, first lady

Mt. Calvary M.B. Church family will be honoring its Pastor, Ricky D. Dixon and First Lady with an appreciation luncheon from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Quality Inn & Suites in Bradley.

The family asks all to celebrate 11 years of dedicated service and spiritual leadership that Pastor and First lady Dixon have provided to the Mt. Calvary and surrounding communities. There will also be a worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church at 7377 E. Illinois St. in Sun River Terrace. The morning speaker and special guests will be Pastor Ernest Rucker and the Pleasant Grove M.B. Church.

Asbury UMC selling lasagna dinners to go

The United Methodist Women of Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee are selling Lasagna Dinners to Go from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. Dinners are $7 for two pieces and breadsticks or $14 for four pieces with breadsticks.

Pre-orders are necessary. To order, choose a pick up time: No. 1, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; or No. 2, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Send a check for your dinners (payable to United Methodist Women), your name and pick-up time to Asbury United Methodist Church, 196 S. Harrison Ave., Kankakee, IL 60901.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church to hold rummage sale

A rummage sale will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 348 E. Merchant St. in Kankakee, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Friday. Use the alley entrance.

Proceeds will benefit the Tabea Society Altar Guild.

Our Savior Lutheran holding rummage sale

Our Savior Lutheran Church at 975 W. Brookmont Blvd. in Bradley will be holding a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Individual items will be marked half off and a full bag of items is $5. Some exclusions apply. The bags will be provided through a donation from Berkots. Masks and social distancing will be required in accordance with state mandates.

Public Square Rosary Rally

At noon on Oct. 16 at St. Margaret Mary Church on Main Street in Herscher, a public rally to pray for world peace will be held. Bring a lawn chair. This will be moved inside the church if there is inclement weather.
