Rummage sale

Sheldon United Church (Fifth and Iroquois Street) will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, with a lunch and bake sale. There will be household and Christmas items, winter coats, gloves and toys. Funds will go to the heating bill for winter.

The Lesters are a family group that now is working in their 92nd year of presenting gospel music. The Chosen Ones came together in 1978 and have been presenting their music ever since. A love offering will be taken.

Cookie walk/exchange

Swedish celebration

Donovan Methodist Church, 208 Lyle Ave., Donovan, will celebrate its Swedish heritage at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, recognizing St. Lucia and the Swedish families. Coffee and Swedish food will be served after worship. All are welcome.


Aroma Park United Methodist Church, 105 N. Division St., Kankakee, will have a supper of chili, chicken and dumplings, hot dogs, grilled cheese, salad and dessert from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 15. Cost is $7 for adults; $3 for ages 6 to 10; and free for children younger than 5. A Dance in the Light performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the church.


New Jerusalem S.D.A. Church will have the Food, Fun and Fellowship Banquet at 5 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Quality Inn, 800 N. Kinzie Ave., Bradley. There will be door prizes and a scholarship awarded. Pastor honored

The Rev. Deborah Bell, M.Mus., M.Div., the pastor of congregational care at GatheringPoint Church of the Nazarene, was honored Sunday with the title of Pastor of Care Emeritus for completing 22 years of ministry at College Church and GatheringPoint. A well-known person in Kankakee County, she taught orchestra in the Bourbonnais school districts, played in the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra for 28 years and directed the Kankakee Valley Honors Orchestra.
