The southern gospel group Jake's Boys will perform at Momence First United Methodist Church on Sunday.

International musician leads worship

Huntley Brown, an accomplished musician who has performed internationally and on radio and TV, will lead 10 a.m. worship service Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, 500 S. Gladiolus St., Momence.

Music ministry

Momence First United Methodist Church, 111 W. Fourth St., Momence, will host the southern gospel group Jake's Boys Music Ministry at 9 a.m. Sunday. Family and Friends concert

Great New Hope Church, 1591 E. Cedar St., Kankakee, will have the Family and Friends concert at 6 p.m. Saturday. The special guest will be William Smith Jr. and the Renewed Voices of Christ, of Chicago.

Hymn sing

The Quester Chapter, Iroquois Antiquers and the Prairie Dell Church board will host the "Sweet Hour of Prayer and Hymn Sing" 4:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Prairie Dell Church, 2550 E. 2150N County Road, west of Iroquois. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Yvonne Doggett. John Lubben, Prairie Dell's caretaker, will share information about the restoration of the 1870 church and its history. The public is also invited to share stories of the church. Refreshments will follow.

Iroquois Antiquers have helped restore five church windows through matching grants, with the help of the Illinois State Questers and public generosity. Prairie Dell Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Questers will have fall mums available to purchase at the church. They are available in white, yellow, orange, red and purple. Funds will go towards future preservation projects for the church. For more information, call 815-683-2560.

Rally Day

Wesley United Methodist Church, 500 N. Cleveland Ave., Bradley, will have Rally Day festivities Sunday at Lills Park in Bradley. The day starts off at 9 a.m. with worship service, followed by a potluck picnic. Bring your favorite dish and lawn chairs to start off the new Sunday school year.

Usher anniversary

The Senior and Youth Ushers, Nurses and Hospitality Ministry of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 570 N. Harrison Ave., Kankakee, will celebrate their 73rd anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday. The guest will be the Rev. Michael B. Henderson of Second Baptist Church in La Grange.

Special speakers

Westbrook Church of the Nazarene, 900 W. Jeffery St., Kankakee, will host George and Norma Wood at 6 p.m. Sunday. These former missionaries from Swaziland will speak of the amazing way in which God heard their prayers for the persecuted church.

Homecoming celebration

American Lutheran Church, 1560 Career Center Road, Bourbonnais, will have Homecoming, celebrating 69 years together, on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 815-932-7515. Events are as follows:

• 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday: sixth- through 12th-grade youth event, with free cookout, outdoor activities and music with de la Croix, including LYO members.

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday: outdoor activities, including sharing memories, a pig roast and games. Buy tickets by Monday: $15 for adults, $5 for ages 5-10 or free for children younger than 5.

Sing and mum sale

The Illinois Iroquois Questers will host the Prairie Dell Sweet Hour of Prayer and Hymn Sing and mum sale at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, located at the Prairie Dell Church, 2250 E. 2150N County Road, west of the village of Iroquois. Open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Farmers market

Central Christian Church, 310 Main St. NW, Bourbonnais, will have a farmers market from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, located in their parking lot. Blood drive

Taize prayer

Maternity BVM Parish, 308 E. Marsile Ave., Bourbonnais, will hold Taize Prayer, a simple, nondenominational prayer service, the first Friday of the month, starting Sept. 1. The service will consist of simple chants, the music of orchestral strings and a vocal quartet, Scripture, a service of light, an extended period of silence for meditation and prayers for our world. Health and wellness fair

The Women of Prayer and Action of Morning Star Baptist Church, 525 N. Harrison Ave., Kankakee, will have a health and wellness fair and blood drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 3. Vendors will give health screenings, cooking demonstrations and information on exercise, nutrition, sexual awareness, alcohol/opioid abuse intervention, traffic stop safety, fire safety, Alzheimer's/dementia and teen violence prevention. Craft show

Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 E. McArdle Road, Coal City, will hold a craft/vendor show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 in the church fellowship hall. Admission is $1, which includes a door prize ticket. There will be plenty of parking and several crafters and vendors with a wide variety of items to choose from. Lunch also will be available. All proceeds from this event will go to the church building fund.

AWANA club
