Little Dresses for Africa

First Baptist Church of Kankakee, 1756 W. Route 113, Kankakee, will have a Little Dresses of Africa sewing day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. If you don’t sew, there are other ways to help. Bring a sack lunch. For more information, call Madonna Raiche at 815-592-2534.

Women of the Year

The 2018 Women of the Year for the Joliet Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will be celebrated at a Mass by the Rev. Brad Baker at the Cathedral of Saint Raymond in Joliet Saturday, with a luncheon to follow.

  • Karol Grizzle by Maternity BVM Parish Council of Catholic Women. She is a sacristan, usher and Eucharistic minister, bringing Communion to several homebound parishioners. She also chaired the bingo tent at parish picnics and the French Canadian Heritage Celebration.
  • Mary Jane Lafond, of Watseka, by St. Edmund’s Council of Catholic Women. She has served in various CCW and Deanery offices, including as president of St. Edmund’s CCW, president of Ford-Iroquois CCW Deanery and current secretary of the Deanery. She organized the Dress-a-Girl project and sews dresses for international distribution with the idea that every girl deserves a new dress.
  • Loretto Cowhig by St. Patrick Kankakee Council of Catholic Women. She has served on the Parish Council, as a lector and Eucharistic minister at Mass, as well as the City of Kankakee Planning Committee, County Planning Board, League of Women’s Voters and Northeastern Illinois Agency on Aging.

Spring revival

Mount Calvary M.B. Church, 7377 E. Illinois St., Sun River Terrace, will have revival services with Elder Alfred E. Smith, pastor of Zion Travelers M.B. Church in South Holland, at 7 p.m. April 25-27.

Simulcast

First Baptist Church, 300 E. Third St., Manteno, will have a simulcast from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 with Priscilla Shirer, star of “War Room,” and worship by Anthony Evans. Tickets are $20 and include breakfast and lunch. RSVP by Saturday at fbcmanteno.com.

Pancake breakfast

Grace Community United Methodist Church, 735 Main St. NW, Bourbonnais, will have a pancake breakfast from 10 to 11 a.m. April 29. All are welcome. Donations will benefit Grace CUMC College Ministry.

Pastoral appreciation service

Pembroke Fellowship Church will honor the Rev. Rodney Lake on April 29. The 11 a.m. guest speaker will be the Rev. Larry Harris, from Irving, Texas, and the 4 p.m. guest speaker will be the Rev. Joseph Kelly, from One Lord One Faith Church of Chicago.

Food pantry

Wesley’s Table Food Pantry at Wesley United Methodist Church, 500 N. Cleveland St., Bradley, will be open from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sundays for Bradley and Bourbonnais residents. For more information, call the church at 815-933-7932.
