Farthing named Woman of the Year at Maternity BVM
Rose Marie King Herzog Farthing was recently named the Council of Catholic Women’s Woman of the Year at Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Bourbonnais. Farthing is a member of CCW and the choirs and outreach committee, has helped with the gardens and is always lending a helping hand wherever one is needed.
Farthing has two sons, Dr. Joseph Herzog, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and Thomas Herzog, of Long Beach, Calif. She is the widow of Howard Farthing.
Farthing will be honored at a Mass and luncheon along with all the Woman of the Year from throughout the Diocese of Joliet, at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet on Saturday. Maternity BVM CCW President Jackie Soucie and Vice President Karen Zarifis will accompany her. The theme for the Mass and luncheon is Blessed Women Serving in Faith.
First Baptist Church holding sewing day
The First Baptist Church of Kankakee, 1756 W. Illinois Route 113 in Kankakee, will be holding Little Dresses of Africa sewing day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Westbrook to host global missionaries
Dwight and Carolyn Rich, global missionaries in the Church of the Nazarene from Ecuador, will speak at te 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at Westbrook Church of the Nazarene at 900 W. Jeffery St. in Kankakee.
They have served in leadership positions for 35 years on the North Andean field (Ecuador, Columbia and Venezuela).
Pork chop dinner set for Coal City UMC
Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 E. McArdle Road, invites the community to its drive-up pork chop dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Each meal will include a pork chop, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw and a dinner roll.
All meals will be packed in carry-out containers to take home and enjoy. The cost is $10 per meal. All proceeds will go to the church building fund. Only 150 meals will be available, so stop by early.
Pembroke to honor Rev. Lake’s service
Pembroke Fellowship Church will honor the Rev. Rodney Lake for his 10 years of pastoral leadership with a celebration service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Tyler Prude, of Second Baptist Church in Kankakee, and the 4 p.m. guest speaker will be the Rev. Marvin Wiley, from Rock of Ages Baptist Church of Maywood.
Celebration of Divine Mercy set for Sunday
The 19th annual all-area Celebration of Divine Mercy begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John Paul II Campus, 956 S. Tenth Ave., Kankakee.

Morning Star Baptist Church to honor Pastor Crawford

St. John Paul II to hold Santacruzan
St. John Paul II Catholic Parish, 956 S. Tenth Ave., Kankakee, is hosting Santacruzan on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12.
Saturday will include a float parade of the Santacruzan Queens at 6 p.m., followed by a coronation night of the Reina Helena program and formal gala in the church gym.
Guest speaker will be Gina Jamoralin, Consulate General of the Philippines Chicago. Dinner tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children age 11 and younger. Children younger than 5 eat for free. Dinner ticket sales end May 5.
