Hands of couple with flutes of champagne and their friends with bengal lights

Local spots around Kankakee plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Another year is about to be in the books. It stands to reason that 2020 will not be off anyone’s mind anytime soon, and many are looking for a chance to celebrate its conclusion. While staying home with pajamas and champagne and watching the (virtual) ball drop will be the plans of many, there are local options available for celebrating outside of the house.

Grapes & Hops

Back again this winter are the heated igloos, otherwise known as “The Love Shack,” at Grapes & Hops. The igloos are located in the bar’s backyard and seat up to two people. Igloos include a fireplace heater, mistletoe, large winter blankets, a festive red light wrapped house, walkie talkies, outdoor speakers and a velvet loveseat.

The rental cost is $40 and reservations can be made at tinyurl.com/grapeshopsnye. Grapes & Hops is located at 251 S. Schuyler Ave., Kankakee.

The Jailhouse Rock

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of “The Empire Strikes Back,” The Jailhouse Rock is setting their New Year’s theme as “Star Wars.” Costumes to match the theme are encouraged (but not required) as a prize for best costume will be presented.

The party will also feature free champagne, free party favors, drink specials and karaoke. The celebration starts at 7 p.m. and will go early into the next morning. The Jailhouse Rock is located at 793 N. 5th Ave., Kankakee. For more information, visit the venue’s Facebook page.

Rt. 66 Old School Brewing

This party is looking forward to saying “good riddance” to 2020 and kicks off at 4 p.m. The event will not go into the new year, as a champagne toast at 8 p.m. will complete the celebration.

Sean Walsh will be performing from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the brewery’s Facebook page. Rt. 66 Old School Brewing is located at 110 Bridge St., Wilmington.

Steam Hollow Brewing Co.

Steam Hollow invites guests to moonwalk into 2021 with their 1980’s themed celebration. The brewery encourages arriving dressed in your best 80’s gear. Guests will rock out to the theme-matching cover band, Just the 80’s.

Prizes for best dressed will be presented while food from Tacos My Way will be available. A $10 cover at the door will begin at 5 p.m. followed by pop culture trivia throughout the night, which starts at 6 p.m. and has prizes for each round.

For more information, visit the venue’s Facebook page. Steam Hollow Brewing Co. is located at 450 S. Spruce St., Unit C, Manteno.
