St. John Paul II to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday

St. John Paul II Catholic Parish, 956 S. Tenth Ave., Kankakee is holding a Cinco de Mayo event from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday. There will be food, traditional costumes, soccer, music, a horse show and music.

Everyone is welcome, and 100 percent of the fundraising proceeds will go to the parish.

Morning Star Baptist to honor Pastor Crawford

Morning Star Baptist Church in Kankakee will hold Pastor Montele Crawford’s third pastoral anniversary and ministry appreciation banquet at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Charlton Room, 150 N. Indiana Ave. in Kankakee. The theme is The Power of Three: “Three Cords Are Not Easily Broken” Eccl. 4:12.

Peace Lutheran to host free concert by The Kramers

The Kramers will be performing at 5 p.m. Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church, 200 W. Arnold Ave. in Thomasboro, just south of Rantoul off Interstate 57.

This is an nonticketed event, but a love offering will be accepted. The doors will open at 4 p.m. Concessions will be available.

The Kramers have performed at the National Quartet Convention and at the Gaither Fall Festival. They host the “RiverLife Gospel Music Cruises” aboard the Spirit of Peoria riverboat in Peoria. Rachel West Kramer has sung at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, with then President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush in attendance.

St. John Paul II to hold Santacruzan

St. John Paul II Catholic Parish, 956 S. Tenth Ave., Kankakee, is hosting Santacruzan on Saturday and Sunday, May 11-12.

Saturday will include a float parade of the Santacruzan Queens at 6 p.m., followed by a coronation night of the Reina Helena program and formal gala in the church gym.

Guest speaker will be Gina Jamoralin, Consulate General of the Philippines Chicago. Dinner tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children age 11 and younger. Children younger than 5 eat for free. Dinner ticket sales end May 5.

Events Sunday begin at 1 p.m. with a bilingual Mass, followed by the official Santacruzan events around the church. For more information or dinner tickets, call the church at 815-933-7683.
