Grace Baptist to hold free concert

There will be a concert featuring Tim Zimmerman and The King’s Brass at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Grace Baptist Church, 2499 Waldron Road, Kankakee. This is a free concert. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Zion Lutheran to hold garage sale

Zion Lutheran Church will hold a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and June 6-7 in the parish hall at 540 Oak Park Ave. in Beecher.

Lunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering a choice of barbecue sandwich or a hot dog, with chips and a dessert, including coffee or lemonade, for $3.

New Jackson Tabernacle to hold yard sale

New Jackson Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 668 E. Mulberry St. in Kankakee will have its first yard sale (retail therapy weekend) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, call Sherrie Wright at 662-313-3564.

Church to celebrate pastor’s retirement

The public is invited to a potluck dinner Sunday to celebrate the retirement of the Rev. John Kiefer as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church. Kiefer is retiring after 27 years as pastor. He was installed April 12, 1992. The potluck dinner will follow the 10 a.m. services. Bring a dish to share. Table service and a drink will be furnished.

Zion Lutheran Church is located on Illinois Route 17, just east of Herscher Road. Anyone who would like to contribute to a retirement gift for Kiefer can contact Roxanna Kruse at 453 Kay St., Herscher, IL 60941.

Ford Iroquois Deanery to hold institute

The Ford Iroquois Deanery Council of Catholic Women Spring Institute will be held June 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 407 W. Pells St. in Paxton. The morning will begin with at 9 a.m. Mass in the church.

The theme of the day is “Women Wear Many Hats”. The program will be presented by Jenny Washburn on “The History of Hats Through Music.” Women are invited to join the fun and wear their favorite hat. Lunch will be served by St. Mary’s CCW Ladies at 11:30 a.m. Our project of “Dress a Girl Around the World” continues. Completed dresses will be collected that day, and packets to sew over the summer will be available. All women of the Ford Iroquois Deanery are invited to attend.

Sheldon UMC having rummage sale

Sheldon United Methodist Church on the corner of Fifth and Iroquois Street in Sheldon, is having a large rummage sale, bake sale and lunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 7 and 8.

Funds will be used for ongoing roof repairs. Thanks to all those who donated last year, as the church now has a new furnace.

Donovan UMC hosting Vacation Bible School

The Donovan United Methodist Church will be having Vacation Bible School from 9 to 11 a.m. June 10 to 14. All children ages 3 years old through sixth grade are invited.

Bring your Bible and your bike for a fun-filled week.
