I posted the following on my Facebook page Friday:
“Family … you can’t live with them; you cannot live without them. There is something irresistible about them.”
It is a line from a song that I changed a word to family.
There are times I sit and think how did I end up with my family?
We do not get to select our parents, siblings and others. I am grateful for all family members.
It is just sometimes I do not understand how we operate. Is there hidden meaning in an e-mail? What information is someone looking for? Why is someone telling me this?
It is that side of me, the reporter, that is looking for the answer.
It frustrates me. It shouldn’t, but I let it bite me sometimes.
I always come around that maybe we need to explain ourselves better to the people closest to us. As my Dad said many times as I was growing up, we are not mind readers.
My favorite line is, “When you look in the mirror, look past the reflection and deep inside yourself.”
You will be amazed what you find. I know I am when I do it.
It is just a matter of taking what is given and use it to the best of your ability. Do not read between the letters of the words or the lines between the sentences. Just let it unfold.
Family is foundation. Good and bad just makes us that stronger with the ones we love the most.
That’s why I find them so irresistible.
